Fishing at 5, Mining at 9

The world is melting, sea levels are rising and our planet is flooding. We need to prepare for the future. My A/W24 menswear collection will be ready for the battle of climate.

‘“Fishing at 5; Mining at 9” is an outerwear collection based on my hometown that was built on these dangerous industries. Exploring the 19th century’s workwear that was inspired by both my hard-working grandads.

The oversized, dark, workworn collection has fabrics informed by the circular fashion principles of durability and longevity, with inspiration from iconic industrial workwear of oilskins, boilersuits, and smocks. The rusty cord fishing net is influenced from the boats on the port, whilst clashing with the burnt etched denim that brings a shiny, coal-like effect.

It was 75 years last year since 104 men and boys died in the pit explosion. Through the collection the aim has been to communicate the remembrance.

There is a memorable history on Whitehaven but maybe no clear future.
