Inky Florals

Chapter 1 > Observing Change (climate warning)

Imagining being transported to the year 2070, how does our future look? What should fashion aim to be? How might it shape our future lives?

My answers to the above questions will be informed by investigating what has changed over the past 50 years, with a focus on my dad’s observations of Langley Park Old Rec, hypothesising how history can repeat itself or combine with today’s zeitgeist to affect change and create a new global future. Today more so than ever society is very tied up on technology and spending less time on what is happening to the world around us. Thinking about the growing concern of environment issues such as nature degradation, through deletion of habitats and wildlife. This autumn/winter 24/25 atelier women’s wear print collection will convey nature’s colourful florals on co-ordinating luxury sports wear pieces, those that may be lost by 2070. Comparative positive and negative imagery will create atmospheric nostalgic references to nature. Printed fabrics will be created by and using a combination of both screen-printing and sublimation printing techniques. Dusty colours of gold, olive greens and night purple with pops of teal, rusty orange and fluorescent pink will capture the atmosphere of parkland as the seasons change. Contrasting layers of chiffon, stretch neoprene, satin and crepes fabrics will appear across the collection to capture layering found on the forest floor. Silhouettes mimicking the nature reserve movement.
